CONSERVATION STATUS:
  • Threatened.

CULTIVATION:

  • Light shade to full sun.
  • Regular watering with good drainage.
  • Tolerates light frost.

PROPAGATION:

  • Readily propagated from seed and suckers.
    Transplants very successfully.
NATURAL HABITAT:
  • KwaZulu Natal Province between Paulpietersburg and Louwsburg. Plants grow on cliffs and steep rocky slopes.

STEM:

  • Erect, aerial stem which seldom becomes reclining.
  • Stem can attain a length of up to 2 meters with a diameter of 25 cm – 35 cm.

LEAVES:

  • Leaves are straight with sometimes a twist of the rachis at the apex.
  • Leaves are dark bright green on the upper side with a lighter green on the lower side.
  • Leaflets can be entire but most of the time have 1 – 4 teeth on both margins but more commonly on the lower margins.
CONES:
  • Both male and female cones have a light green to yellowish colour.
