Encephalartos dyerianus

CONSERVATION STATUS:
  • Critically endangered.

CULTIVATION:

  • Full sun.
  • Can sustain drought but does well with regular watering and good drainage.
  • Frost tolerant.

PROPAGATION:

  • Readily propagated from seed and suckers.
NATURAL HABITAT:
  • Restricted to two granite outcrops in the eastern part of Limpopo / Northern Province near Mica and Gravelotte.

STEM:

  • Aerial and erect stems can become up to 6 meters.  Sometimes the longer stems may become decumbent.
  • Diameter varies from 30 cm – 60 cm.

LEAVES:

  • Leaves have a pale bluish green colour, are rigid and curve outwards for a short distance just above the leaf base and then curve gently inwards along the remainder of the leaf.
  • Leaves are 1.2 meter – 1.7 meter long.
  • This species has a very dense leaf canopy.
CONES:
  • Cones are initially blue green but change to yellowish green colour with maturity.
