CONSERVATION STATUS:
- Critically endangered.
CULTIVATION:
- Full sun to light shade.
- Regular watering.
- Tolerant of light frost.
PROPAGATION:
- Propagation from suckers and seedlings although seedlings are difficult to obtain.
NATURAL HABITAT:
- Mpumalanga Province in the Barberton District and Swaziland in the Piggs Peak area where they grow on steep slopes in open grassveld.
STEM:
- Erect, aerial stem.
- Stems can attain length of 3 meters with a diameter of 25 cm – 40 cm.
- Stem apex is covered by a dense golden brown woolly layer.
LEAVES:
- Two forms of heenanii are acknowledged by collectors: The long- and short leaf forms.
- Leaves appear with a layer of silver to silver brown hair but the hairs are gradually lost.
- The mature leaves are dark green on the upper side and paler green on the
lower side. - Leaves are stiff with a typical upwards and inwards curl, creating a cuped shape
canopy. - Leaflets shield one another and are shaped backwards.
- Leaflet margins are entire and sometimes shaped concave transversely.
- New flush of laeves covered with golden-brown wool.
